GN Company Technical Department’s Suggestions about Centrifuge for Clarification Application

For the mixture of large amount of liquid phase and small amount of solid phase, Clarification means to remove the small amount of solid phase from the liquid phase, to make the liquid phase as clean as possible.

(1) Physical Specifications
Clarify the solid phase in the liquid phase, and size, shape, properties of the particles contained in the solid phase, as well as the liquid phase temperature, Ph, viscosity, and specific gravity of the liquid-solid.

(2) Liquid Phase Requirement after Clarification
Solids content in the liquid phase, and moisture content in the solid phase.

(3) Selection of the Centrifuge Model
The big amount of liquid phase has a small amount of solid phase, and the particle size of the solid phase is very small (less than 10 μm) or amorphous mycelium. GN Technical Engineers suggest clients to consider about Decanter Centrifuge, Disc Centrifuge, or Tube Centrifuge. Tube or Disc Manual Slag Discharge Centrifuge can be applicable if the solid phase content is <1% and the particle size is <5µm. If the solid phase content is ≤3% and the particle size is <5µm, Disc Piston Slag Discharge Centrifuge is better. Tube centrifuge has high separation factor (f≥1000), which can separate smaller particles with particle size of about 0.5um, and obtain clear liquid. After separation, the solid residue is closely attached while cannot transfer. It is dry attached to the inside of drum. So the machine needs to be disassembled and cannot be continuously procedured when the dross is removing. And for facilitating the dross removal, some of the drums are lined with a thin plastic paper tube, and the paper tube can be pulled out when the dross is discharged. Disc Centrifuge also has high separation factor (f = 1000). Due to the disc combination, the sedimentation area is large and the sedimentation distance is small. The resulting clear liquid is also good, and the processing capacity is larger than that of the tube centrifuge, but the separation result is that the solid phase produced is also deposited on the inner wall of the drum, and it needs to be dismantled regularly to remove slag, so it cannot be continuously produced.
