Diamond core drilling is one kind of drilling project which is similar with some small HDD or TBM drilling. But comparing with HDD or TBM drilling, although the requested capacity of the diamond core drilling is smaller, the separation standard is even higher.

GN Solids Control has some mature solutions for such kind of drillings, and GN Solids Control has a group of compact designed separating equipment to serve in this system. This system is combined by a small shale shaker and a baby centrifuge, which are the most efficient separation equipments, and the cutting point could reach 2 to 5 microns. Besides the separation equipment, this system has a mixing unit also, which is used for adding more components into the system.
In this system, following equipment are included:

1. GNZS752E-DM shale shaker. This is a small shale shaker, suitable for the small capacity applications like the diamond core drilling. It has 2 pieces of shaker screens, with a screen area of only 1.35 cbm, only larger than half of GN normal shakers. But this capacity and mud routine is enough for the small projects. GN has a shaker screen factory for making composite material frame screens for this shaker model.

2. GNLW223-VFD decanter centrifuge. It is the smallest decanter centrifuge among GN centrifuge models. The bowl diameter of GNLW223 is only 9 inch, but the rotating speed could reach 4200RMP as normal operating speed.

3. Jet mixing hoppers for the mixing unit.

4. A tank for housing those above mentioned equipment and for receiving the liquid discharged from the equipment.

5. Centrifugal pumps respectively for feeding the decanter centrifuge and the mixing unit. GN centrifugal pumps are fully interchangeable with NOV Mission pump in both installation dimensions and spare parts.

  1. Shale shakers of 9 sets: GNZS594E Shale shaker, linear motional shaker screens with 4 pieces composite material shaker screens. The screen area could reach 2.73 square meters
    1. Mud cleaners of GNZJ594E-3S16N, with 3 of 10 inch desander cones and 16 of 4 inch desilter cones. For each solids control system, there are one set of mud cleaner.
  2. GNZJ594E series mud cleaners share same shaker with GNZS594E shale shakers, with interchangeable spare parts for shaker parts and shaker screens.
  3.  GNLW decanter centrifuges of 6 sets. Decanter centrifuges are GN core products, and GNLW series decanter centrifuges’ sizes range from 9 inch to up to 30 inch. Big bowl middle speed decanter centrifuge GNLW452 are widely used for barite recovery of solids control systems and high speed centrifuges are used for waste management systems for the extra fine particles remove.
  4. Centrifugal pumps, GNSB series centrifugal pumps are used for feeding the desander and desilter cones, and also for the mixing hoppers’ feeding.

Besides above mentioned equipment, GN also provide the mixing hoppers, mud agitators, mud guns and other equipment, mud tanks for solids control equipment, and also for drilling waste management system for both drilling cuttings and drilling fluid.

Comparing with the most commonly used 14 inch decanter centrifuges, the GNLW452 and GNLW453 Decanter Centrifuges of 18 inch bowl and GNLW553 decanter centrifuge of 22 inch bowl are already called big bowl centrifuges. In this case, the newly on show GNLW764A-VFD Decanter Centrifuge could be a giant centrifuge, because the bowl diameter is 30 inch while the length-diameter ratio is 4.4 to one.

This design is suitable for handling the large capacity with a single unit of centrifuge. And the special design and best material chosen makes the GNLW764 decanter centrifuge to have a good performance and longer service life.
Besides GNLW764A-VFD decanter centrifuge, GN also has designed GNLW554D-VFD decanter centrifuge, which is also of large length diameter ratio up to 4, it is quite suitable for the waste water treatment projects.

1. Electric components are of Siemens, ABB or Schneider, all of world best brands.
2. For the VFD control panels, GN provide positive pressurized control panel and has air conditioning system for cooling as option.
3. Bowl main body material is made of duplex stainless steel SS2205.
4. Impeller protection is with tungsten carbide tiles, for longer service life and easier keeping the dynamic balancing.
5. Solids discharge port is made of special ceramic or tungsten carbide inserts, to have a longer service life.
6. Flexible adjustable liquid level ponds, to change the drying level of treated material.

Also, for the CIPPE 2017 which was held in Beijing, GN Solids Control also showed the fully hydraulic decanter centrifuge, of 14 inch bowl diameter. It is preferred by some clients from extremely high temperature condition and where the electric power is limited.

Among GNLW series decanter centrifuges, you can find the suitable model for both the weighted mud and unweighted mud, and GN has high speed decanter centrifuge and middle speed decanter centrifuge respectively for 2-5 microns and 5-7 microns solids particles separation work. And GNLW series decanter centrifuges could use VFD control panel, in this case, for the same decanter centrifuge, end user could use it at any bowl rotating speed from 0 RPM to the maximum RPM of the centrifuge designed RPM. Like GNLW363CG-VFD, the max speed is 3900RPM and it could be used as both solids control decanter centrifuge and drilling waste management decanter centrifuge.

Besides using the decanter centrifuge for the physical separation, GN Solids Control’s new products, which employed in the chemical and thermal solutions also use Decanter Centrifuges as below:

  1. Dewatering unit and dewatering centrifuge. Dewatering unit is to use some chemicals to flocculate the extra fine particles into larger ones, and the next move is to separate it out with decanter centrifuge or filter press. GN Decanter centrifuge is used for dewatering centrifuge and the efficiency could reach 95%.
  2. Thermal Desorption Unit, it is used to separate the liquid phase from the solids, and then use thermal way to burn the oil from the solid and separate the oil and water by an oil water separator, in this case, decanter centrifuge is the first step for separation.

The solidification unit is a newly adopted solutions for final treatment of drilling cuttings from both the OBM and WBM, especially the water based mud. It is original designed for the drilling cuttings discharged from the traditional drilling waste management systems, the high G dryer and decanter centrifuge, or ,the VG dryer and decanter centrifuge in case of oil based mud.

Normally the drilling cuttings from the traditional drilling cuttings waste management systems are not dry enough to be discharged directly. They need to be transported to other places for further treatment. In order to solve this problem, GN has designed and put into use the solidification unit, it could be connected along side the rig, and treat the drilling cuttings directly until they are inactive and could be buried on rig site as re-fill soil per some countries and regions’ rules.

Working procedure of GNGH Solidification Unit:

By using 3 hoppers, 1 big one and 2 smaller ones, the drilling cuttings to be treated and the other one or two additional components could enter the unit and mixed together. Normally the 2 components are respectively absorber and cement. They made the active things in the drilling cuttings to be inactive and make it harmless for the environment.

Features of GNGH Solidification Unit:

GNGH-15A solidification unit is designed to have 3 VFD’s and it is an automatic operating unit. The 2 hoppers respectively for feeding the absorbers and cement could be used at same time or separately, depending on the operators’ request and the cuttings’ condition. By using the 3 VFD’s, the operator could also adjust the feeding ratio of the 3 to get an ideal result.
